After Iraqi troops retake eastern Mosul, Muslims remember the Prophet Jonah

By Craig C. White

On July 24, 2014 ISIS destroyed the shrine to the Prophet Jonah in eastern Mosul. In January 2017 the Iraqi Army retook eastern Mosul and recovered the site of Jonah’s shrine now in ruins.

Mosul in northern Iraq is built around the ruins of ancient NIneveh. Long ago God sent Jonah to NIneveh to tell them to repent or their city would be destroyed. Jonah is mentioned in the Quran as well as the Bible. Before ISIS destroyed the shrine of Jonah the site was a popular place of worship for Muslims. Today Muslims have once again begun returning to the site to pay their respects to Jonah.

The Prophet Nahum predicted the flooding of ISIS in Mosul. Remembering Jonah’s message of repentance may be Israel’s last chance to repent before their time of tribulation begins.
