God’s Resume
Work then Rest
Hebrews
By Craig C. White
Hi my name is Jesus. I am a Jewish man descended from King David. I am best known for my work on the cross. I once gave my life for forgiveness of sins. I am writing this because I may be looking for a new job soon. This is a list of some of the positions that I have held in the past. Each job came to an end because the work I was doing was completed. One of my first jobs was creating the world with my Dad.
Gen 2:1-3Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.2And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.3And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
Making everything was a lot of work. It took six days! Afterwards I rested with my Dad. My Dad and I have a special relationship. We are actually one in the same. We made the world together.
John 1:1-3In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.2The same was in the beginning with God.3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
After creating the world I rested because my work was finished. I didn’t rest for only one day but I have been resting from creating things ever since. I offered the same sort of rest that I have enjoyed after creating the world to everybody. I first offered it to my fellow Jews. I only asked that they honor me for creating everything and that folks would live righteously. Some people accepted that rest and some people rejected it. I guess that some people prefer to be rebellious rather than enjoying eternity in peace. If you ask me that is a very sad thing. In the following verses the pronoun “them” refers to my Jewish brothers of long ago.
Hebrews 4:1-6Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.2For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.3For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.4For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.5And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.6Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
Yep, I offered my rest to my Jewish brothers first but most of them didn’t want it.
What does my rest consist of? Well first it means that you won’t have to work to become righteous. I offer complete forgiveness of your sins. Because of my work on the cross you can receive my righteousness as your own. You don’t have to do any work at all; except to trust me. You will also enjoy resting from your physical labor in order to feed yourself and make ends meet. Stick with me and your needs will be met forever. Do you believe me? Just as God rested from his works of creation you can rest from your weary labor.
Hebrews 4:9-10There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.10For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
Like I said earlier, I have held several positions. After I gave my life for forgiveness of sins I was appointed as High Priest by my Dad. I didn’t ask to become High Priest. It was an honor given to me by my Father for a job well done. It makes sense since I live forever. That way I can always do a good job. Not like an ordinary man who will die one day. My Dad says that I was obedient when I gave my life as the payment for the sins of the whole world. He thinks that I have earned the right to become the High Priest.
Hebrews 5:5-9 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee. 6 As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. 7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; 8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; 9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
It is true I did give my life for the sins of mankind. That is perhaps the finest example of my work history. After I finished doing that I again rested. I sat down at the right hand of God’s throne in heaven.
Hebrews 8:1 Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;
So I am currently working as High Priest. What does a High Priest do? My first duty was to offer a sacrifice for sins. I didn’t offer animals like the other High Priests. I offered my own life since it is eternal. That way my sacrifice will last forever. I won’t need to make another sacrifice ever.
Hebrews 9:11-12 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; 12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
I made my sacrifice on earth and then offered it to God in heaven. I offered my sacrifice on behalf of all people of all time.
Hebrews 9:24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:
I am writing this because I may be looking for a new job soon. I won’t always be seated at God’s right hand in heaven. I will one day come back to earth.
Hebrews 9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
The verse above says that I will come back to earth “without sin”. That means that I won’t be returning to make another sacrifice for sin. My first sacrifice was made once and for all time.
Hebrews 10:11-13 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: 12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; 13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.
This is what I am talking about. I will need a new job soon. I am in heaven now but only until the day that my enemies are ready to be defeated. You see the Devil is now in heaven accusing believers before God. Another one of my duties as High Priest is to defend people who believe in me. The Devil tells God that believers are being unfaithful. It is my job to tell God that even though they may be unfaithful for a little while that all of their sins have already been forgiven. The penalty for all of their sins has already been paid by me.
Here is my concern. Very soon the Devil will be thrown out of heaven. We have had enough of his cynicism up here. He has a terrible attitude. After he is thrown out of heaven for good then I won’t need to defend believers any more before God. So I will defend my faithful followers until the day that Satan is cast out of heaven. But after that I will need to find something else to do!
Rev 12:9-13 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. 10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. 12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. 13 And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.
After Satan is gone out of heaven things can get back to normal up here. I am certain that it’s going to be a lot more peaceful without his bickering. Unfortunately things on earth are going to get a lot worse. When Satan falls to earth he will try to run the show. He is going to empower a man to do his bidding. He will try to become king of the earth. Satan is so prideful that he won’t submit himself to God. He wants to be like God. The problem is that he is wicked and not good. He isn’t like God at all. I suppose that it is the same case with every person who rejects my offer of eternal rest. They don’t want to submit themselves to God either. When Satan falls to earth he is especially going to torment my Jewish brothers just because I have promised them eternal rest.
After Satan falls the first thing that I am going to do is come back to earth to collect the people who believe in me. My followers will know that I am coming for them when they see a man empowered by Satan. He will speak against God and hate Israel. The bible calls him the Antichrist. So the revealing of the Antichrist on earth is the sign of the Rapture. My concern is that after Satan is thrown out of heaven and then after I come back to earth to get my followers; at that time I will need to consider a new line of work. I was thinking of something perhaps in the vengeance field.
