Yet forty days, and Mosul shall be overthrown!

Iraq plans to retake Mosul from ISIS

By Craig C. White

If you are a Christian or a Jew or you just don’t want to suffer a terrible time on earth then you need to keep your eye on Mosul! Mosul is a large city located on the Tigris River in northern Iraq. The city of Mosul is the same city that the bible calls Nineveh. God sent the Prophet Jonah to Nineveh to tell them to repent. In Matthew 12:38-41 Jesus told the Jews that he would give them one sign. He would give them the sign of Jonah to prove that he was the Messiah. Just as Jonah was in the fish for three days Jesus would be in the grave for three days. But there is more to the sign of Jonah! Jonah preached a simple message, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown. They got the message. Nineveh repented and the city was saved. Today the Iraqi Prime Minister has issued the same warning to ISIS in Mosul.

Iraqi Prime Minister Abadi announced plans to recapture the northern city of Mosul within the next few months. The Sunni Muslim Al-Qaeda terrorist group ISIS overtook the city last summer. Mosul is Iraq’s second largest city with a population of 1.4 million. Mosul consists largely of Sunni Muslims and is the hometown and headquarters of ISIS.

Under the guidance of a few US military advisers 25,000 well-armed Iraqi troops are planning an assault on Mosul. Some US generals and politicians have complained that the plan to attack Mosul should not have been made public. They say that this gives ISIS fighters a chance to escape as they have escaped from other cities in the past. Others say that the broadcast of the Iraqi military plan is part of a strategy. They say that the knowledge of an impending attack will wear down ISIS as they are on constant alert. The news of this attack also gives the civilian residents of Mosul a chance to escape before the fighting starts.

The bible has something to say about Mosul in Iraq. God destroyed the ancient city of Nineveh with a flood. The city was then plundered for two months by it’s neighbors. Today the ruins of Nineveh lay within the city limits of Mosul. God said that he would destroy the place with a flood. Today the Mosul dam just north of the city is in danger of bursting.

Nahum 1:8 But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.

The book of Nahum is all about God’s anger and judgment against Nineveh. The city of Nineveh was completely destroyed in 612 BC by a coalition of three nations; the Babylonians, Medes, and Persians. Today these nations are represented by Iraq, the Kurds, and Iran. I think that we should notice that all three of these modern day nations have strong motives to overthrow ISIS in the Nineveh Province. As a matter of fact all three of these nations are already fighting against ISIS. Perhaps God will once again send a flood of water along with these three nations against Mosul to destroy ISIS!

Here is the most important lesson to be leaned from the flooding of Mosul and from remembering Jonah’s warning. The preaching of Jonah could be the one sign that Israel’s time of trouble is at hand. Repent and be saved from it!

  1. Would you further expound on your previous reference to Koran prophecy-based defeat on Syriran /Turkey border as it relates to now real time events. Does this relate to imminent Mosul invasion?

    1. Hi RJ: The Quran records Jonah’s visit to the ancient city of Nineveh. Islam counts Jonah as a prophet of God. Jonah preached the destruction of Nineveh. They repented and the city was saved for a while. ISIS blew up the shrine of Jonah in Mosul. Mosul is built around the ruins of Nineveh. The Prophet Nahum says that God will destroy the place where Nineveh was built with a flood. https://hightimetoawake.com/isis-in-bible-prophecy/

  2. Who is togarmah or house of togarmah in book of Ezekiel? I have always read it is modern Turkey. That’s what the 0xford Bible Dictionary says.
