People today are looking for signs in the heavens but Jesus said to discern the signs of the times
The sign of Jonah
By Craig C. White
Are we in the end times? More and more, Christians seem to think so. But how do they know? People today are looking for signs in the heavens but Jesus said to discern the signs of the times.
Matthew 16:1 The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven. 2 He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. 3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times? 4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.
Don’t look to the stars. Instead consider the signs of the times. Consider the many end time events that are unfolding right now. Namely the impending Turkish attack on Tell- Rifaat in northern Syria (Jer 49:23). Consider the nearing destruction of Damascus (Jer 49:23-27). Consider the conflict among Egyptians (Isaiah 19:2). Notice that the heathen are raging in the Middle East and in northern Africa. Also recognize that the armies listed in Ezekiel 38:5 are gathered in Syria. Turkey will lead these armies into Israel. Understand what things that the scripture tells us that the Antichrist will do. Notice that Turkish President Erdogan has already done many of them and has promised to do the rest. Hear the cry of “peace peace” in Israel.
Jesus promised only one sign. That was the sign of Jonah. The sign of Jonah is all about resurrection from the dead. Like Jonah was in the fish for three days; After three days in the grave Jesus arose alive. Jesus also promised resurrection and eternal life to whosoever would believe in him. The Prophet Jonah was sent to the gentiles in the city of Nineveh. Today Nineveh is called Mosul in northern Iraq. Events in Mosul could possibly be associated with the resurrection of Church age believers. The resurrection of gentile believers would be the greatest sign possible to prove to Israel that Jesus truly is their Messiah and God, and that Jesus has power over sin and death. It’s High Time to discern the signs of the times.
Craig,
The Gospel of Mark records in detail the signs of the times “The Good News concerning Jesus Christ, the Messiah, the Son of God.” Mark 1:1.
Only three people were studying the heavens in order to follow a Celestial sign. Before the appearance of the star, many signs of the times were witnessed by multitudes of people, a priest of Israel, and former prophets. Interestingly enough the religious leaders of the day, and the masses missed it. Hum, any parallels to today?
