Will this generation repent at the preaching of Jonah?
The flooding of Mosul – Israel’s sign of coming judgement

The book of Nahum is all about the destruction of the ancient city of Nineveh. God destroyed the city with a flood and then it was ransacked for two months. Today the ruins of Nineveh lie within the city limits of Mosul.
Nahum 1:8 But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.
Conditions in Mosul are the same as they were in ancient Nineveh. The Mosul dam is in danger of bursting. The same three armies are set against it. Nahum likely also foretells the destruction of Mosul. The destruction of Mosul could be the end time sign to Israel that their time of trouble is at hand. The destruction of Mosul could also be the sign to the unbelieving world that God is about to judge them.
The unbelieving religious rulers in Jerusalem demanded a sign from Jesus. Jesus told them that they would not be given a sign except for the sign of Jonah. Jonah was sent to ancient Nineveh to tell them to repent because God’s judgment was coming on the city.
Matthew 12:38-39 Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee. 39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:
Perhaps some of the nation of Israel will repent at the preaching of Jonah when Mosul is flooded! If they do repent then they will narrowly escape God’s coming judgement on the city of Jerusalem and on the nation of Israel.

The Mosul dam is still in danger of bursting.
The Prophet Nahum predicts the flooding of Mosul. The northern Iraq city of Mosul is built around the ancient city of Nineveh. God sent the Prophet Jonah to Nineveh to tell the Assyrians to repent. The flooding of Mosul could be associated with the sign of Jonah. The flooding of Mosul could be the one sign to Israel before their time of trouble begins that Jesus is their true Messiah. As a matter of fact the flooding of Mosul could be associated with the return of Jesus and the Rapture of Christians.

I had always thought the sign of Jonah that Jesus was referring to was His resurrection in three days.

Hi Gene. Yes it was but I think that there may also be a future portion of the sign of Jonah. Like Jonah went to Nineveh I think that Jesus may return to flood Mosul.
