ISIS surrounded in Old City neighborhood of western Mosul

By Craig C. White

ISIS once controlled the entire city of Mosul in northern Iraq. Now they have been corralled into just one Mosul neighborhood. This week the Iraqi Army closed off the last remaining exit out of the Old City neighborhood of Mosul. ISIS is now trapped inside of the Old City neighborhood of western Mosul; the one last remaining neighborhood that is still under ISIS control.

The Prophet Nahum predicted the flooding and destruction of the ancient Assyrian capital city of Nineveh. Today Mosul in northern Iraq is Nineveh. Nahum may also predict the flooding of ISIS in Mosul. Nahum says that ISIS will be gathered closely together when destruction comes upon them. Today ISIS is gathered closely together in the Old City neighborhood of Mosul. The verse below compares the destruction of ISIS to briars as they are gathered to be burned. It also says that ISIS will be drunk when their destruction comes.

Nahum 1:10 For while they be folden together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.

ISIS is a Sunni Al-Qaeda ultra conservative Islamic faction. Mosul is their hometown and world headquarters. In May, 2014 ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi proclaimed himself as head of the new Islamic Caliphate (ISIS) in the Al Nuri Mosque located in the Old City neighborhood of Mosul.

Brigadier General Yahya Rasool, the spokesman for the Iraqi Joint Operations Command (JOC) said “The victory in the liberation of Mosul will be symbolized by the retaking of the Grand Mosque of Al-Nuri in western part of the city.” Rasool said, “When we recapture the mosque, a very important message will be released that the Daesh [ISIS] is doomed completely, and its illusion to build a state of terrorism thirsty of slaughter is shattered,” So the Al Nuri Mosque symbolizes the beginning as well as the end of ISIS.

Over the past couple of weeks ISIS has barricaded the Al Nuri Mosque preparing to make their last stand there.

I think that the Prophet Nahum identifies the Al Nuri Mosque as the “palace” in the verse below.

Nahum 2:6 The gates of the rivers shall be opened, and the palace shall be dissolved.

In 612 BC the city of Nineveh was flooded and plundered. The Tigris River overflowed its banks inundating the palace of Assyrian King Sennacherib. Sennacherib’s palace remained undiscovered until February of this year (2017). Miraculously, Iraqi soldiers discovered the ruins of the palace after liberating eastern Mosul. But the Hebrew word that is translated as palace in the verse above does not necessarily identify a kings palace but it more accurately describes a large meeting place such as a temple or a mosque. Here is the definition from the Strong Hebrew dictionary.

hêykâl, hay-kawl’
(in the sense of capacity); a large public building, such as a palace or temple: – palace, temple.

Nahum says that the gates of the Tigris River will be opened and that the Al Nuri Mosque will be dissolved by a flood of water. Nahum predicts the flooding of ISIS in Mosul. Brigadier General Yahya Rasool says, “The battle to recapture Mosul is going on smoothly and the city is to be liberated in days.”

      1. In the sky my Homeland Where there will be no more tears.
The home was prepared there For me by my friend Christ.

In the sky, in the sky I will soon be,

I will be where friends are waiting,

I will be where my Jesus is –

          There only I aspire.

There is a place for rest From want and fuss,
There, the love of Christ, the Holy One, will unite all.

O, Homeland dear, Stranger craves for You,
And he accelerates all his steps. He hurries to his native country.

    1. It doesn’t make sense that ISIS would destroy the Al Nuri Mosque. They have been fortifying the mosque over the past several weeks. It is one of their last fortifications. I am waiting for confirmation.
