ISIS blows up Al Nuri Mosque
By Craig C. White
ISIS has blown up the Al Nuri Mosque in the Old City neighborhood of western Mosul. They have also blown up my theory that Nahum identifies the Al Nuri Mosque as “the palace” in the following verse.
Nahum 2:6 The gates of the rivers shall be opened, and the palace shall be dissolved.
The Prophet Nahum predicted the flooding and destruction of the ancient Assyrian capital city of Nineveh. Today Mosul is Nineveh. The Prophet Nahum may also predict the flooding of ISIS in Mosul. The Prophet Nahum says that the gates of the Tigris River will be opened and the palace will be dissolved. The Al Nuri Mosque was my candidate for being the palace mentioned by Nahum. Perhaps ISIS in Mosul will yet be destroyed by a flood of water but it doesn’t look like the Al Nuri Mosque is the palace that Nahum spoke of. Assyrian king Sennacherib’s palace was just rediscovered for the first time since it was buried by the flood of 612 BC. Archeologists from around the world are eager to excavate the site. Perhaps Sennacherib’s palace will be completely dissolved when the flood hits Mosul. Or perhaps there is another large capacity building where ISIS will make its last stand. If Nahum’s prophecy applies today then Mosul will flood soon. Keep watching.
One thing is for sure, God made certain that we didn’t identify the Al Nuri Mosque as the palace in Nahum 2:6. If God washes away Sennacherib’s palace then he will be making a broader condemnation about the Assyrian Empire and not just about ISIS.
The Al Nuri Mosque was where ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi announced the creation of his Islamic Caliphate (or ISIS). The Al Nuri Mosque was 840 years old and was a national treasure to Iraq. Its picture appears on the Iraqi one hundred dinars bill.
Here is footage of the Al Nuri Mosque as it is being blown up.
The palace and the Assyrian empire should not be reborn, so there will soon be a pond full of water in this place. If someone wants to see the attractions of Nineveh, dive with scuba diving.

Good job Sergio. You are right on top of things. I will check out the Tell Rifaat story. Tell Rifaat is Arpad mentioned in Jeremiah 49:23.

Craig,
A flood of that size will completely destroy/dissolve the ancient palace recently discovered, and bury in a watery grave all of the artifacts from ancient Assyria. I think ISIS blew up the mosque in a futile attempt to put the blame on the West. Even if Mosul were to be rebuilt, and the ancient palace be excavated, Nahum’s prophecy could be 100% fulfilled at a latter date. Don’t forget, that with the exception of some western allies, these are Muslims defeating Muslims in Mosul. There is still little hope for the christians left in Iraq, and as far as Iran and Turkey
are concerned in the region, terrorists are fighting terrorists.
