Nahum Checklist

Drunk, fortified, and flooded

The Prophet Nahum predicted the flooding, burning, and pillaging of ancient Nineveh. This happened in 612 BC. So Nahum’s prophecy has already been fulfilled. But sometimes Bible prophecy has multiple fulfillment. In this case Nahum may also predict the flooding and destruction of ISIS in Mosul. You see, today the ancient city of Nineveh is called Mosul. Many of the things that Nahum predicted have already happened to ISIS in Mosul. If Nahum’s prophecy also applies today then ISIS in Mosul will be destroyed by a flood of water very very soon! Here is a checklist of events that have already happened in Mosul.

In this verse Nahum says that ISIS will be gathered closely together and will also be drunk with wine. Today ISIS has been pushed closely together into the Old City neighborhood of western Mosul.

Nahum 1:10 For while they be folden together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.

Here is an interesting note. Even though hundreds of thousands of residents have fled Mosul; alcohol sales have just reached an all-time record high. In the neighborhoods that have been reclaimed from ISIS the people want to celebrate. Perhaps ISIS will get their hands on some of this booze.

The next verse identifies a rotten leader who comes out of Mosul. Head ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi lives in Mosul. Mosul is the hometown and headquarters of ISIS.

Nahum 1:11 There is one come out of thee, that imagineth evil against the LORD, a wicked counsellor.

The next verse says that the gates of the rivers will be opened. The Tigris River flows right through the middle of Mosul in northern Iraq. The gates of the Mosul dam have been broken for a long time. On May 4, 2017 at least one of the gates was repaired and opened for the first time in twelve years.

Nahum 2:6 The gates of the rivers shall be opened, and the palace shall be dissolved.

The Iraqi Army has pushed ISIS into the Old City neighborhood in western Mosul. The Grand Al-Nuri Mosque is located there. The Al-Nuri Mosque is where ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi announced the formation of his Islamic State (or Caliphate; i.e. ISIS). I suspected that Nahum may be identifying the Al Nuri Mosque as “the palace” in the verse above. That is until ISIS blew the Al Nuri Mosque to smithereens. So we are obviously looking for a different palace to be dissolved. Nahum may be referring to the palace of Assyrian King Sennacherib that was just recently rediscovered for the first time since it was buried by the flood of 612 BC.

In the next verse Nahum calls Mosul “the bloody city”. Over the past three years ISIS has brutally killed many tens of thousands of innocent citizens in Mosul. Over the past eight months the Iraqi Army has killed several thousand ISIS fighters. There have also been many civilian and military casualties of the battle for Mosul. Added up, the death toll reaches about 100,000 in Mosul.

Nahum 3:1 Woe to the bloody city! it is all full of lies and robbery; the prey departeth not;

There have been many news reports about the bodies of dead ISIS fighters lying in the streets.

Nahum 3:3 The horseman lifteth up both the bright sword and the glittering spear: and there is a multitude of slain, and a great number of carcases; and there is none end of their corpses; they stumble upon their corpses:

There may be many more corpses after the flood hits.

In the next verse the Prophet Nahum again says that ISIS will be drunk. He also says that ISIS will seek to fight behind a fortified structure because their enemy is closing in on them. Perhaps ISIS will make their last stand inside of a large building that Nahum identifies as “the palace”.

Nahum 3:11 Thou also shalt be drunken: thou shalt be hid, thou also shalt seek strength because of the enemy.

I expect this next verse to be fulfilled shortly. The word “flood” refers to a flood of water just like it did during the destruction of Nineveh in 612 BC.

Nahum 1:8 But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.

There is more to the story but after ISIS is flooded in Mosul then everyone that hears about it will clap with approval.

Nahum 3:19 There is no healing of thy bruise; thy wound is grievous: all that hear the bruit of thee shall clap the hands over thee: for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?

ISIS now controls only one square mile of the Old City neighborhood of western Mosul. They are “folden together”. There is plenty of wine flowing in the streets of Mosul. Perhaps we should expect the Tigris River to rise very shortly.
