The Devil falls bringing Euphoria or Grief
The Devil’s ousting marks the beginning of God’s great judgment and kingdom.
Revelation 12:1-13 verse by verse
By Craig C. White
Euphoria or Grief, which would you prefer? Every person chooses between the two. God will soon throw the Devil out of heaven. That event divides salvation and rejoicing in heaven from wrath and grief on earth.
Revelation 12:1 And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:
Israel is pictured here. The LORD is her light (Isa 60:19-20). She is crowned with twelve sons, the tribes of Israel.
Revelation 12:2 And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.
The child is Jesus Christ; God in human flesh; the child given to the world by way of Israel (Isa 7:14). Jesus was born at his due time; Christ also died in due time (Rom 5:6).
Revelation 12:3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.
The dragon is the devil (Satan); the god of this world. The seven heads are the seven gentile world empires of world history; Egyptian, Assyrian, Babylonian, Persian, Grecian, Roman, Ottoman plus a revived Ottoman Empire yet to come. Ten horns are ten kings that rule that final world empire (Dan 7:24). The Devil is the influence behind world empires. He wants to be worshiped as God on earth (Isa 14:12-14).
Revelation 12:4a And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth:
One third of the angels in heaven follow the Devil. He will throw them to the earth with him. The following verse refers to Antiochus Epiphanies the king of the Seleucid dynasty of the Grecian Empire. It may also apply more directly to the Antichrist and to Satan at the time of the devil’s fall.
Dan 8:9-11 And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land. 10 And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them. 11 Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down.
Revelation 12:4b and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.
Satan (the Devil) influenced Herod the king of Judea to kill all male children around Bethlehem that were less than two years of age in order to eliminate the messiah (Mat 2:16).
Revelation 12:5 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.
Jesus was born through the nation of Israel. His destiny is to rule all the earth from Jerusalem forever (Isa 9:6-7). After Christ’s resurrection he was taken up to heaven to sit at the right hand of God until his return (Mar 16:19).
Revelation 12:6 And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.
During the Tribulation the people of Judea (the region around Jerusalem) will flee to the mountains where God will sustain them for three and a half years (Mat 24:15-16, Luke 21:21-22). I think that this place is on the east side of the Jordan River in Moab of Jordan.
Revelation 12:7-9 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, 8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. 9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
There will be a war in heaven and Satan and his angels (devils) will be thrown out. It may not have happened yet, but it will happen very soon. We will know that the war has happened by the revealing of the Antichrist on earth. The Devil is tossed out of heaven and then gives the Antichrist influence on earth (2 Thes 2; see notes next verse).
Revelation 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
The casting out of the Devil marks the beginning of God’s great judgment of the rebellious. It marks the beginning of God’s final dominion on earth. Only the Tribulation period precedes Christ taking his thrown in Jerusalem. Today the Devil accuses believers of sinning in front of God in heaven. Soon The Devil will be cast out of heaven for good. According to 2 Thessalonians 2 the Devil is cast out of heaven just before the Antichrist is revealed. The Devil empowers the Antichrist on earth. The Devil’s removal from heaven is called “the falling away”. The revelation of the Antichrist is the sign of Israel’s great tribulation.. Read my commentary titled “The Fall of Satan and Rise of the Antichrist”.
Revelation 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
The next verse may indicate that Christians are taken up into heaven around the time that the Devil is cast out of heaven (2 Th 2). The only way that a person can be with God in heaven is to trust in Jesus Christ’s blood sacrifice as payment for their sins (John 1:29).
Revelation 12:12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
The Church will rejoice in heaven. People on earth will be subject to the wrath of the Devil and to the judgment of God during the Tribulation (Mat 24:21).
Craig,
When Jesus came the first tim, there was a lot of demonic activity, and He cast out many demons. Do you think there will be an increase in those types of demonic posession as we draw near to His second coming?

There seems to be. I don’t know of any scripture verse that says that demonic activity will increase but when Satan is cast out of heaven he will take 1/3 of the angels with him. Pretty grim.
