    Sign of Jonah

The destruction of Mosul may be Israel’s last sign that Jesus is their God

    By Craig C. White

The ancient city of Nineveh was known for its bloodshed and cruelty. Back around 800 BC God sent the Prophet Jonah to the city of Nineveh with a message, “Repent of your evil ways or the city would be destroyed in forty days!” That generation repented but it seems that this generation doesn’t want the chance.

Jonah 3:4 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.

Today the ruins of Nineveh lie within the city limits of Mosul, Iraq. Mosul in the Nineveh Province is the home town of the Al-Qaeda terrorist group known as ISIS. Since June 10th, 2014 ISIS in Mosul has been behaving in the same way as the ancient Ninevites. They have committed horrific atrocities against their fellow countrymen in the Nineveh province of northern Iraq.

On July 24th 2014 ISIS blew up the shrine to Jonah in Nineveh.

In Jonah’s day the city of Nineveh repented however God finally judged the city in 612 BC. The Prophet Nahum foretells the destruction of Nineveh. The city was flooded by the Tigris River and was then besieged by three nations. Babylon, Persia, and the Medes plundered Nineveh for two months leveling the city. Today the same three nations are fighting against ISIS in Mosul. They are Iraq, Iran, and the Kurds. Perhaps God will send another flood along with these three armies to once again overwhelm Mosul at Nineveh!

Nahum 1:8 But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.

Conditions in Mosul are the same as they were in ancient Nineveh. There is overflowing bloodshed. The Mosul dam is in danger of bursting. The same three armies are set against it. Nahum likely also foretells the destruction of Mosul.

Nahum 3:1-3 Woe to the bloody city! it is all full of lies and robbery; the prey departeth not; 2 The noise of a whip, and the noise of the rattling of the wheels, and of the pransing horses, and of the jumping chariots. 3 The horseman lifteth up both the bright sword and the glittering spear: and there is a multitude of slain, and a great number of carcases; and there is none end of their corpses; they stumble upon their corpses:

God spared the city of Nineveh in Jonah’s’ day. Jonah was upset because the people of Nineveh repented and escaped God’s punishment. God reminded Jonah that many innocent lives would be lost during the destruction of Nineveh. I suppose that most of us today would be happy to see ISIS in Mosul wiped out. In the book of Jonah God reminds us of the human tragedy his judgment brings. Moral of the story; repent while you still can!

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Folks wanted proof that Jesus was God so they demanded a sign. Jesus gave them the sign of Jonah. Just as Jonah was inside of the fish for three days Jesus also rose from the grave in three days. But there may be more to the sign of Jonah. Long before the Mosul dam was ever built Bible scholars have wondered if the preaching of Jonah was also a part of the sign. The grammar of Mathew 12:39-41 leads some Bible scholars to think that the subject of Jesus’s comment was the preaching of Jonah.

Matthew 12:38-41 Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee. 39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: 40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. 41 The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.

The Greek word translated as “sign” means miracle or supernatural wonder. Notice in verse 41 that the men of Nineveh repented at the preaching of Jonah. They did not repent at the miracle of surviving in a large fish for three days.

The unbelieving religious rulers in Jerusalem demanded a sign from Jesus. Jesus told them that they would not be be given a sign except for the sign of Jonah. Jonah was sent to ancient Nineveh to tell them to repent because God’s judgment was coming on the city. The destruction of Mosul could be the end time sign to Israel that Jesus is truly their God and that their time of trouble is at hand.

Jesus said that an evil generation desires to be shown a sign. We should already know and honor God because it is evident that he has created all things and also because has given us his word. We should not require a sign in order to motivate us to repent from our unbelief and rebellion. Nevertheless Jesus gave his generation the sign of Jonah.

Perhaps this generation will repent at the preaching of Jonah when Mosul is flooded! If Israel repents at the preaching of Jonah then they will narrowly escape God’s coming judgement on the city of Jerusalem and on the nation of Israel.

Jesus said that even the men of ancient Nineveh will rise from the dead and condemn his generation for its unbelief. It seems to me that this generation is about to witness another sign of Jonah. ISIS in the city of Mosul rejected Jonah’s offer of repentance by blowing up Jonah’s shrine. A terrible time of God’s judgment is coming upon Israel and also upon all of the earth. Only by repentance from unbelief can we escape it.

I suspect  that the Prophet Nahum describes the fall of ancient Nineveh as well as the demise of modern day Mosul. I think that Mosul will fall soon by a flood and by the same three armies that wiped out Nineveh.

Since I wrote this I have learned that the dam just north of Mosul is very unstable and requires continuous maintenance. The capture of the dam by ISIS and the recapture of the dam by the Kurds has disrupted its maintenance schedule. In 2007 the Army Corp of Engineers declared it the most dangerous dam in the world. If Mosul falls I will count back forty days to see what significant event may have happened on that day.

    Turkey and Libya Maritime agreement

    Turkey and Libya Maritime agreement

Turkey exposes it’s Ottoman expansionist ambitions

    By Craig C. White

Over the past couple of years Turkey has forced a lot of disputation over oil drilling rights in the eastern Mediterranean. Turkey has sent their ships to drill around Cypress and the Greek Isles claiming it as their own territory. Luckily all that has been solved. This week Turkey and Libya have passed a new maritime agreement. The Turkish Parliament has ratified and enacted an official maritime boundary map that gives them the rights to Greek and Cypress waters. The map also seems to give Libya the rights to Egypt, Israel, and Lebanon waters.

In reaction to the new Turkey and Libya maritime agreement Greece is expelling the Libyan ambassador. Egypt called the agreement “illegal”. Before you conclude that this maritime agreement is dead in the water; on Friday December 6, 2019 Turkish President Erdogan sent the new boundary map to the UN for international approval. This new maritime map justifies Turkish aggression towards Greece, Cypress, Egypt, and even Israel. I hope that it isn’t lost on you that these are the areas that would complete a revived Turkish ruled Ottoman Empire. A revived Ottoman Empire is the beast who’s head was wounded and then healed in Revelation 13:3.

Now let’s learn something from the Bible. In Daniel chapter 11 we are told that the Antichrist will attack Egypt by many ships. There is no dispute between Bible teachers that the king of the south represents Egypt. I am here to tell you that the king of the north represents Turkey. That would make them the king of the south Mediterranean and the king of the north Mediterranean.

Dan 11:40-43 And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over. 41 He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon. 42 He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape. 43 But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps.

In the last verse we see that Libya will be allied with Turkey, the king of the north. Turkey and Libya are in cahoots today. Libya is fighting alongside of Turkey in Syria. The Free Syrian Army was created in Libya by Libyans. It is named the “Free Syrian Army” because their goal is to conquer Syria. There aren’t any Syrian soldiers in the Free Syrian Army. Ethiopia is also mentioned. The name “Cush” is translated as Ethiopia in the Bible. Cush is one of Noah’s grandsons. Cush settled in the land south of Egypt. Today Sudan is located south of Egypt. Whenever you read the name Ethiopia in the Bible, you can be assured that it really refers to Sudan. Turkey is also in cahoots with Sudan. Turkey is rebuilding an Ottoman era naval base off of the coast of Sudan.

  • Residue of a Remnant

    Residue of a Remnant

    Zechariah 14:2

    By Craig C. White

The English Bible uses the word “remnant”. Remnant most interestingly refers to a small part that is left of the whole nation of Israel after God judges them.

One Hebrew word for “remnant” is:

    sheh-ay-reeth’
a remainder or residual (surviving, final) portion: – that had escaped, be left, posterity, remain (-der), remnant, residue, rest.

Here is “remnant” used in a verse.

2Ch 30:6 So the posts went with the letters from the king and his princes throughout all Israel and Judah, and according to the commandment of the king, saying, Ye children of Israel, turn again unto the LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, and he will return to the remnant of you, that are escaped out of the hand of the kings of Assyria.

This is talking about the Jews who did not get captured by the Assyrian kings around 700 BC. A few Jews were still left in the land of Israel.

There is an even more interesting word used in the English Bible, “Residue”! Residue can mean an even smaller group of people!

    yeh’-ther
Properly an overhanging, that is, (by implication) an excess, superiority, remainder; also a small rope (as hanging free): – + abundant, cord, exceeding, excellency (-ent), what they leave, that hath left, plentifully, remnant, residue, rest, string, with.

Here is “residue” used in a verse.

Zechariah 14:2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.

In the verse above “residue” refers to the few inhabitants of Jerusalem who do not flee but stay behind in the city and are hunkered on Mt. Zion until the end of the Tribulation.

Here are the two words used together in the same verse.

Zephaniah 2:9 Therefore as I live, saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, even the breeding of nettles, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall spoil them, and the remnant of my people shall possess them.

In the verse above “the residue of my people” are the people of Judea who have fled into the Jordanian wilderness during the Tribulation. When Jesus returns they will plunder Jordan.

Also in the verse above “the remnant of my people” includes every Jew who has survived the Tribulation!

The residue is only part of the remnant.

The events of the coming seven year Tribulation period crescendo into a pinnacle of trial for the nation of Israel, and also into a moment in time when the trials are over and redemption comes to Israel at last and forever. Jesus Christ will return to save Israel from its enemies.

At the epicenter of this moment between trouble and salvation sits a small band of Jews waiting for their redeemer on Mt. Zion in Jerusalem. They are the last Jews in Jerusalem. They are the residue of Jerusalem in Zechariah 14:2.

You probably haven’t thought about it much but understanding that moment in time when the residue of Jerusalem is rescued by Jesus Christ will illuminate much of what Jesus said in the Gospels.

In the English Bible several Hebrew words are translated as “remnant” and “residue”. Sometimes the English word for remnant and residue are the same Hebrew word.

  • The Least of These, Matthew 25:40

least of theseThe least of these

God will reward every person and nation who aids Israel during the Tribulation.

    Matthew 25:40

    By Craig C. White

Have you ever wondered who were “the least of these” spoken of by Jesus in Mathew 25?

Matthew 25:40  And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

Israel will be devastated during the Tribulation. Orphans will be wandering the streets without parents and without food. An Israeli leader will allow all of this to happen.

Zec 11:16  For, lo, I will raise up a shepherd in the land, which shall not visit those that be cut off, neither shall seek the young one, nor heal that that is broken, nor feed that that standeth still: but he shall eat the flesh of the fat, and tear their claws in pieces.

God himself will raise this shepherd to serve his purpose of judging Israel during the final seven years of indignation spoken of by the prophet Daniel (Dan 9:24). The wicked shepherd will not care for the children who wander the streets having lost their parents. He will not help those whose lives have been broken. The phrase “nor feed that that standeth still” means he will not support those who are standing for what is right. The shepherd will not do what is right. He will do the opposite. He will greedily consume the wealth of Israel for himself. He will tear apart all those who reach out for help. The Israeli people will be orphaned, homeless, and hungry. God will reward every person and nation who aids the people of Israel during the seven year Tribulation period.

We will sing a new song

The Church will be raptured before the Tribulation begins.

    By Craig C. White

The elders of the Church are in heaven before the scroll of God’s judgment is opened. That means that the rest of the Church is with them!

    Revelation 5:8-9 And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints. 9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

People from every tongue and nation are in heaven before Jesus opens the seals of the scroll that begins the Tribulation (Rev 5:9). That means that the Church is resurrected and raptured before the Tribulation begins!

This is wild. A 3D street view rendering of the 3rd Temple in Jerusalem can be viewed on Google maps. I guess that somebody is expecting a new Jewish Temple to be built on the Temple Mount. In fact some Israeli Rabbis have been negotiating with the Islamic world over the past few years about building a new temple. They say that building a new temple will usher in lasting peace. Unfortunately when they say peace and safety then sudden destruction will come upon them (2Thessalonians 5:3). So the presence of a new temple in Jerusalem is a sign that Israel’s time of trouble is right around the corner.

Daniel 9:27 indicates that the Antichrist will put an end to temple sacrifices during the Tribulation period. This verse seems to suggest that provisions for the new temple will be part of the seven year term agreement that the Antichrist makes regarding Israel. This treaty could also involve other world powers.

Daniel 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

Revelation 11:1-2 indicates the presence of a temple in Jerusalem during the Tribulation. The nations around Israel will have control over the outside of the temple.

Revelation 11:1-2 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. 2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.

This is unmistakable evidence that Israel’s time of trouble is near. The Resurrection and Rapture may be even nearer! Prepare to meet your God!

The next step is for Turkey to attack Hamah and Tell Rifaat in northwestern Syria

    By Craig C. White

The Turkish Army has entered northern Syria. Jeremiah 49:23 lists the two northwestern cities of Hamah and Tell Rifaat. After they hear “evil reports” then the residents of Damascus will flee and Damascus will be destroyed. Tell Rifaat is called Arpad in Jeremiah 49:23.

Jeremiah 49:23 Concerning Damascus. Hamath is confounded, and Arpad: for they have heard evil tidings: they are fainthearted; there is sorrow on the sea; it cannot be quiet.

After the destruction of Damascus I think that Turkey will lead the forces that are now fighting in Syria into the Golan Heights of northern Israel (Eze 38). I suspect that Jesus Christ will return to turn back the Turkish led invasion into Israel. I think that the Resurrection and Rapture will happen at that time!

In the next verse Bashan, Carmel, and Lebanon describe the Golan Heights, Northern Israel, and southern Lebanon. This seems to describe Jesus as he passes above the Turkish led invaders as they enter northern Israel.

Nahum 1:3-7 The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet. 4 He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers: Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth. 5 The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein. 6 Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him. 7 The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.

Tell Rifaat is the last remaining Kurdish held city west of the Euphrates River in northwestern Syria. Turkey has made an agreement with Russia that the Kurds must leave Tell Rifaat or the Turkish Army will attack. The Syrian Army in Hamah is continuing to fight Turkish supported Al-Qaeda forces in Idlib. Turkey is threatening to attack the Syrian Army in Hamah. For Jeremiah’s prophecy to unfold we need to see the Turkish Army move towards Hamah and Tell Rifaat in northwestern Syria. It seems that that is next on the agenda.

  • legitimate prophecy about Russia

At long last a legitimate prophecy about Russia!

    Russian military buildup along Ukraine

    By Craig C. White

Reports are just now surfacing about significant Russian military presence in several locations along Ukraine’s border. Daniel 7:5 predicts that Russia will conquer several nations along its western border in order to form an end time Russian Union. This new Russian Union will eventually join forces with the European Union and a new Middle Eastern Union to form the next world empire. Russia has already formed a new Russian economic Union along with Kazakhstan and Belarus. Ukraine was initially supposed to join as well but backed out at the last minute. Now Russia is prepared to take Ukraine by force.
When you say “Bible prophecy” many people immediately think about Russia. That is a BIG mistake. The “chief prince” in Ezekiel chapter 38 and 39 is a Turkish ruler. Russia will not lead the Middle Eastern nations into Israel. Russia is nowhere to be found in Ezekiel. As a matter of fact Russia is just barely represented in Bible prophecy at all. Here is one instance of Russian activity that the Bible actually does predict. In Daniel 7:5 the Russian bear conquers several nations along it’s western border.
Dan 7:5 And behold another beast, a second, like to a bear, and it raised up itself on one side, and it had three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it, Arise, devour much flesh.
I think that the three ribs in the bear’s mouth are possibly three nations that are under Russia’s control or perhaps more literally; three nations that are situated along its border. At some point they tell Russia to conquer many more nations along one of its borders. Russia is now prepared to conquer Ukraine but the Bible tells us that the Russian bear will certainly gather several more nations into its lair.
By the way; the only other reference to Russia that I see in the Bible is in Revelation 13:2
Revelation 13:2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.
In Revelation 13:2 we are told that the next world empire will have feet like a bear. Back in Daniel chapter 7 we are told that the next world empire will be like a beast that “stamped the residue with his feet”.
    Dan 7:19 Then I would know the truth of the fourth beast, which was diverse from all the others, exceeding dreadful, whose teeth were of iron, and his nails of brass; which devoured, brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with his feet;
The word “residue” is used in the Bible to describe the few remaining Jews that are left inside of the land of Israel after God judges them. Sometimes the word “remnant” is also used. In the past God has typically allowed a world empire to invade and to conquer the nation of Israel. Israel was conquered by every past world empire. But the Assyrian Empire and the Babylonian Empire both entered Israel and carried away captives until there were only a few Jews left living inside of the land of Israel.
In the future the next world empire will also enter the land of Israel and carry away captives. It could be that the feet in Daniel 7:19 represent the Russian Army as it polices the entire land of Israel on behalf of the next world empire. The Russian Army will quash the few remaining Jews left living in the land.

Gantz may become Prime Minister of Israel

Israel may receive its Idol Shepherd this week!

    By Craig C. White

Benny Gantz may become Prime Minister of Israel this week by forming an Arab-backed minority government. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said that the coalition government was trying to “destroy the country”, and he is correct.

Since Netanyahu failed to form a coalition government after September’s elections, Blue and White leader Benny Gantz has been given the chance. He has until Wednesday to form a coalition.

Benny Gantz is a stanch opponent of Netanyahu and his Likud Party. Gantz’s new government would need to include the Arab parties, also known as the Arab Joint list. If successful that would mean that Netanyahu would be out and the Palestinians would have much more say over the future of Israel.

The Bible warns that during the end time a rotten ruler will be raised up over Israel.
